Re: Why I still have a XP machine!
My current machine is a 64bit win7. I still have my xp laptop purchased around 4 years ago. Some of my programs wont run on the new one.
The xp laptop came with a built-in 3.5 drive! (It may be the last laptop that came with one-at least I haven't seen another one either when shopping for it or since.)
I recall one of the earlier versions of windows had a built-in "thunking layer" whereby you could select a setting telling the OS to lie to the program about the actual OS, and pick an earlier OS that the program would work with. Is there anything like that in win7?

Yes, It is called the "Compatibility Mode" right click the EXE files or the ICON or Start entry, and select "Properties".Cellmate wrote: I recall one of the earlier versions of windows had a built-in "thunking layer" whereby you could select a setting telling the OS to lie to the program about the actual OS, and pick an earlier OS that the program would work with. The select the "Compatibility" tab and select the OS that you want to use.
