Win7 and ANSI.SYS

I have an old piece of DOS software that needs ANSI.SYS to be installed as usual, i.e.: in config.sys the line "device=windows\system32\ansi.sys" should be added. This I did after having checked that windows\system32\ indeed contains ansi.sys. However, when I start the DOS software, it reports that ansi.sys is missing. I changed config.sys to config.nt, which was used in the past on NT machines, but that didn't help.

Any ideas, please?

Do you have Windows 7 Professional or Ultimate? If so, you might start Windows XP mode and try running the DOS program there.

But I found the solution. In Win7 (and XP and Vista) one actually has to adapt not the config.sys file in C:\, but the config.nt file in c:\windows\systems32\.
