Tiny Windows 7 Window

Post by CharliesDaughter »

It seems that everytime I open a window in Windows 7, it appears to be about 2" deep (high) at the top of the page; then I have to maximize it, or stretch it so it is big enough to work in; sometimes it's so narrow I almost can't find it on the desktop if I have other windows open. I can't seem to find a fix for this.

Thanks.

Does this happen in all applications, or in a specific application - if so which one? Most applications remember the last used window size and position.
Best wishes,
Hans

Do you have instant viewer assigned to a button on your mouse? What you're describing sounds a bit like what you see in that case, all the active windows tiled on the screen.

No, not as near as I can determine; in fact, if it's not under devises and printers, I wouldn't know where to find it. I have noticed today that it only seems to be happening now, if I right click on a link in an open window and select "Open in new Window" Does that help shed more light on this?

Does this mean that it happens in your browser? If so, which browser do you use (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, Opera, ...)?

Sorry, Eileen, I thought I explained that. It is happening in Internet Explorer (Ver. 8.0.7600.16385)

Try the following:

- Close all IE8 windows except one.
- If your IE8 window is maximized, restore (unmaximize) it.
- Adjust its size and position the way you want.
- Close IE8.
- Restart IE8, and if you prefer, maximize its window.

What happens if you now open a link in a new window?
Best wishes,
Hans

That does not help. The only time the [new] Window in IE opens in a maximized state is if I select New Tab rather than New Window. I have seen this mentioned in another forum somewhere, can't remember where, but it seems I'm not alone.

Could you try again, but with the slight modification indicated in bold red?

- Close all IE8 windows except one.
- If your IE8 window is maximized, restore (unmaximize) it.
- Adjust its size and position the way you want.
- Close IE8 while holding down the Ctrl key.
- Restart IE8, and if you prefer, maximize its window.
Best wishes,
Hans

Does not work. When I first open IE, the window is maximized. If I Right Click on a link and select "Open in New Window", I get a window as wide as the screen but about 1" deep. If If I Right Click on a link and select "Open in New Tab", I get a maximized Window.

Strange? If it isn't happening to any of you using Windows 7 and the same version of IE, I can't imagine where it's coming from.

Doesn't happen to me. When you get the short, wide window, it is magnified or is it an ordinary window that you can resize to view? Almost sounds like you need to reinstall or patch IE8.

It is not magnified and I can resize it. As I may have mentioned, I saw mention of this in another forum; can't remember where, but I'm going to look again and I'm going to raise the question with Microsoft. For now, I just keep reminding myself to use "Open in New Tab" rather than "Open in New Wndow"

Thanks so much for the assist.
