Suggestions for the names of Locked files...

Post by John Gray »

Can anyone suggest examples of files which are locked open when either XP or Windows 7 is running? I've tried with My.PST when Outlook is open and that works fine -- but I don't have Outlook in both operating systems.

Reason for this is that I am testing a program which uses VSS to back up 'locked' files...

Can't you just open a Word document and see if it gets backed up?

I'll try a Word document - but a Notepad file doesn't get locked...

Later... No, the 'open' Word document copies fine with Robocopy.

There are a couple of TMP files which will never delete (presumably lock files for 'something').

But the best one is probably NTUSER.DAT in %UserProfile%, even though it is Hidden and System...
