I have several text (.txt) documents on my desktop. When I open one to make changes they are all there under different tabs in the same document! That seems strange and sometimes confusing. I use these to record notes on several different subjects.
I would rather have them be several separate files/documents, totally independent of each other. Is there a way to accomplish my objective in a simpler way?
Thanks

Re: Text Documents in Windows
Try this:
1) Open one of your text files.
2) It will open in a tab inside Notepad, you'll also see other text files you've opened previously in other tabs.
3) In the top right of the window you should see a cog / gear icon, click on it.
4) In the dialog box that appears, the third heading down should be 'Opening Notepad' and the first option under that heading should be 'Opening files'.
5) At the right hand end of that option there should be a dropdown, that will be set to 'Open in a new tab'. Click on the drop down and change it to 'Open in a new window'.
6) Now close the dialog box by clicking on the X in its top right corner.
7) Notepad will close completely, now reopen one of your text files. You should only see that one file, i.e. you shouldn't see any other tabs.
