I have forgotten everything I may have learned on this subject! I'm getting too old! (:
If I need to do a DIR command at various levels on my hard drive how do I format the DIR command to look for a particular file name? Do I need to get out of Windows to do this. If so, how?
Thanks,
Bill Wilson

Re: What is syntax for directory levels
Why can't you use File Explorer? Showing the contents of each folder on your hard drive is what is designed to do. File Explorer also has a search function that will allow you to search for a particular file name.
Alternatively, and Chris Greaves will appear any minute and expand on this at great length, you can install an application called 'Everything', which can find, well, everything on your hard drive.
If you must revert to the one time MSDOS command DIR then you need to run that from a command prompt.
